After Epiphany, once the festivities are over, we’re going to cleanse ourselves and connect with our feelings
through the practice of Hatha Yoga, Yoga Nidra and contact with nature.
Allow yourself to be held by the stillness, the magnetism of the desert
and the vastness of the Cabo de Gata sea.
Are you coming?

We welcome you to Root-Earth, a Yoga retreat in which we’ll develop a practice focused on grounding ourselves and connecting with our center.
In a magical place, the Cabo de Gata Natural Park, and hosted at the Mdina rural house, an oasis of beautiful gardens and cozy hidden corners.
Winter is a natural time to “go inward”, it encourages introspection and connects us with stillness and silence, inviting us to connect with our Muladhara Chakra (Root Chakra), the seat of our security and survival, associated with earth and grounding, with prosperity and abundance, but also with insecurities and fears.
During these days and from different angles we’ll be deepening and discovering ourselves in this root-earth.
Through Hatha Yoga practices we’ll work to:
Activate internal fire: generate heat, improve circulation and combat the stiffness and lethargy associated with winter cold.
Create grounding: we’ll use standing postures (grounding asanas) to integrate the strength and stability of the earth into our body and anchor ourselves in the present.
Strengthen the immune system: with a practice of postures that stimulate organs such as the thymus, spleen and bone marrow so that your defenses work optimally.
Stabilize the mind and connect with our center.

In the Yoga Nidra (conscious sleep) sessions:
We’ll immerse ourselves in conscious sleep to explore ourselves in the earth element and the root chakra.
During the Yoga Nidra sessions, you remain in a state of “conscious sleep”, on the border between wakefulness and sleep. From this space, you learn to observe your internal experiences (sensations, emotions, thoughts, feelings) with an attitude of detachment.
Sliding into this conscious sleep we experience the different layers of our being, and we can set intentions for what we long for.
We explore a receptive, serene and balanced state for observing sensations and emotional and mental landscapes. Discovering ourselves accepting and welcoming everything that arrives.
The practice of Yoga Nidra helps to release tensions on a physical, emotional and mental level. It helps to combat insomnia and promote a smoother transition into sleep.

Hatha Yoga practice at the retreat
The practices will take place in a large room with views or in one of the outdoor pergolas, if the weather permits. We’ll have at our disposal all kinds of yoga props; chairs, bolsters, blocks, blankets, straps…
At the retreat we’ll combine Hatha Yoga practices that are more dynamic and energetic in the mornings to generate heat based on sequences; “Vinyasas”, where the focus will be on fluidity and synchronization with the breath.
After the active practices we’ll finish with restorative asanas using supports or props that help us with the relaxation and regeneration of the body.
In the afternoons the practices will have a more static emphasis, based on spinal alignment and using support props to facilitate the postures, with the aim of improving body awareness and internalization through holding them. We’ll also learn a sequence of postures focused on strengthening the immune system.
We’ll complement with practices of restorative Yoga, relaxation, pranayama (breathing exercises), meditation, and several Yoga Nidra sessions. Constant observation, active perception “feeling” and attention will immerse us in a climate of concentration and discernment.
The practice will be adapted to all levels, we’ll be able to follow our own individual process, listen to it without pressure and discover our limitations in order to become intimate and empathize with them. This will help us find a kind organicity in our practice where the parts of the body, flows and energies connect and cooperate with each other.
But we won’t only practice Yoga
We’ll have the opportunity to walk a path along the cliff coast that will connect us with the beauty of this volcanic and wild nature. We can stroll along its natural beaches. And if the weather allows and we feel like it perhaps we can take a swim at the beach and/or in the pool since the mild temperatures of Almería can make swimming appealing even in winter.
The house
We’re going to do this retreat in collaboration with the Mdina Rural House on the outskirts of the village of Fernán Pérez within the Cabo de Gata Nijar Natural Park. Less than 15 minutes by car from beaches and coves but away from the hustle and bustle of tourism.
Mdina is a Mediterranean rural house surrounded by walls and inside it seems like a hidden oasis with its gardens full of corners; with its saltwater pool open all year round, with its palm trees, trees, cacti and plants of all varieties.
There are pergolas, benches, sun loungers, terraces at different heights and garden furniture that will make you want to spend time in the outdoor spaces to immerse yourself in an atmosphere of tranquility and well-being.
John and Susana are the hosts of the house. John will cook delicious, healthy and natural food and both will take care of all the details. With their hospitality and spontaneity they’ll make you feel at home.
